Teams we’ve partnered with on their journeys
We help clients improve their businesses by developing software that meets their unique needs, from small integrations to large custom apps.
Surgical Planner
SciMed built Surgical Planner, a HIPAA-compliant web application for a biomedical startup, enabling them to securely anonymize medical images and manage sensitive patient data. We designed an intuitive system that streamlined collaboration between design engineers and physicians, ensuring patient privacy while facilitating the development of custom medical devices.
Antibody Sequence Analysis Tool
SciMed developed a custom Antibody Sequence Analysis Tool for a university health system, revolutionizing their pandemic prevention research by automating complex DNA sequence analysis workflows. We designed an easy-to-use web application that streamlines data capture, organizes critical metadata, and securely manages research data, significantly reducing analysis time and boosting overall efficiency for scientists.
Plant Genotyping Management System
SciMed partnered with a plant research organization to overhaul their outdated genotyping management system, designing an easy-to-use web application that streamlined their data import, organization, and analysis. By securely migrating legacy data and building scalable functionalities for diverse file types, we helped the client move from a time-consuming, inflexible solution to an efficient, easily maintainable system capable of managing research data at scale.
FMRT Group Online Business Hub
SciMed developed a custom online scheduling system for The FMRT Group, a psychological and medical support provider, to efficiently manage appointments across diverse user types. Our secure web application prioritizes sensitive data protection with robust access controls and encryption, providing a HIPAA-compliant platform that streamlines operations and enhances client collaboration.
RealChoices, Duke Diet & Fitness Center
Our expertise in custom software development brought RealChoices to life for the Duke Diet & Fitness Center, converting their paper-based system into an efficient, intuitive online meal planning tool. We built a secure web application that automates food service logistics, manages complex dietary requirements, and tracks nutrient intake, proving our commitment to streamlining operations and improving data management for health organizations.
Open Source Online Grocery Store
SciMed transformed a client's limited internal tool into an Open Source Online Grocery Store, a robust web application designed for advanced purchasing behavior research. We specialized in improving existing software functionality, enhancing security, and creating a maintainable architecture, enabling new research capabilities and widespread adoption by other institutions.
PWA Customization Project
We took on the PWA Customization Project in 2020 to help a client customize their existing enterprise project management system, a custom Microsoft Progressive Web App (PWA). As their organization was unique with its own set of individual needs, we needed to enhance their current software to meet their needs - an issue many of our clients face.
What our clients are saying about us
I can't say enough nice things about SciMed and the way they helped us translate our vision into a working system. During the first design phase of REX, they gave our vision structure and then took us through a rigorous feedback system that made sure we were always getting what we really wanted. For example, after we would specify the desired feature in our own language, they would articulate their understanding by asking, "Here is what we're hearing - is this actually what you want to see?"
Then, in the development phase, they would always show us the emerging product, so that we could give them early feedback on whether they were making what we truly wanted. SciMed's system was very efficient, and it allowed us to realize early in the process that sometimes the way we had conceived things in our head might not be the most effective way to roll something out.

Associate Director for Finance, Administration, and Planning, the Robertson Scholars Program
“SciMed is not just a software company. They have the approach of asking questions and probing for more information with the sole purpose of truly being able to produce a more valuable product. They've demonstrated repeatedly that they really want to understand the process and they want to understand the pain points. They want to understand everything they can about our business.”
Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Director of the Office of Research Information Systems, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
“I'm not a software developer but I know the difference between good professionals and bad ones. From the very first meetings with SciMed, it was quite clear that we were working with an organization that really knew what they were doing and was going to do its utmost to make our system as robust as it needed to be.”
